Marina Isn't a Geisha Anymore

芸者

A geisha (芸者) is a traditional Japanese woman trained in arts like music, dance, and conversation. She wears an elaborate kimono (着物), has white makeup (白塗り) with red and black accents, and her hair (髪型) is carefully styled. A geisha’s role is to entertain guests by playing instruments like the shamisen, dancing, singing, and engaging in refined conversation. She embodies Japanese culture and is known for her elegance, grace, and discipline.

Becoming a geisha takes years of dedication and discipline. Girls usually start as maiko (apprentices) and learn skills such as traditional dance, shamisen playing, tea ceremony, and the art of conversation.
